The government has established the PAMOJA AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee (LOC) to oversee preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
The committee, chaired by Nicholas Musonye, will coordinate logistics, infrastructure upgrades, stakeholder engagement, and tournament delivery to meet CAF standards.
In a special gazette notice issued by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, the government said the new body was necessitated by the “complexities, logistics and magnitude of preparations required for successfully co-hosting” the 2027 tournament.
The LOC replaces the earlier PAMOJA CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027 Multi-Agency Team established in 2024.
The National Steering Committee will comprise 38 members, led by Musonye as chairperson, with Hussein Mohammed serving as vice-chairperson, alongside representatives drawn from various sectors.
The Secretariat, which will handle the day-to-day operations, will be based at Talanta Plaza in Nairobi and headed by Antony Emmanuel Inzahuli.
According to the notice, the LOC’s mandate includes mobilizing stakeholder collaboration and overseeing governance structures “to guarantee accountability and efficiency.”
It will also “coordinate logistical frameworks, and engage with stakeholders, including government bodies, sponsors, and international organizations, to deliver events that meet global standards.”
The committee will play a central role in infrastructure development, including overseeing “the renovation and upgrade stadiums to meet CAF requirements” and ensuring the construction of new sports facilities where necessary.
It will further “ensure upgrades to transport, telecommunications, and other critical infrastructure,” while coordinating match schedules, team logistics, and global broadcast coverage in collaboration with CAF.
The committee will also oversee budget preparation, resource mobilization, and financial accountability, while also securing sponsorships and managing marketing campaigns to promote AFCON 2027 locally and internationally.
It is also tasked with partnering with the Kenya Tourism Board to showcase the country’s attractions.
The committee will be funded through government allocations as well as donations and endowments, with its establishment taking effect from March 27, 2026, aligning its activities with the national vision for sports and economic development.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports had announced the fulfillment of critical obligations to the Confederation of African Football ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, including remitting the USD 30 million hosting fee, underscoring the country’s “credibility, readiness, and unwavering commitment” to delivering a successful tournament.
